Isaiah 2:11-12 - "The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.12 The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled)," V.22 -"Stop trusting in mere human who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?"
We must guard ourselves against arrogance and pride for the Lord is opposed to those who exalt themselves or think to highly of themselves. God alone is to be exalted. We encourage people to be self-confident and self-reliant, but we must be careful that we don't exclude God. Our confidence is supposed to be in the Lord and we are to rely on Him. This is what the Bible teaches. I think we often get the cart before the horse. Where is our focus to be, on us or on the Lord? It is to be on the Lord, and as it is on the Lord, we will be confident and strong, but it will not come from us but the Lord. Arrogance and pride arises when we are fixed upon ourselves and God given abilities to the exclusion of God.
It is not who we are or what we have, but it is who God is and what He has. It is not what we do, but what God does through us.
